Biodiesel in Sweden
This section contains resources for Biodiesel status and trends in Sweden. Do let us know (narsi at esource dot in) if you have a resource that fits in this section.
- News Item: (21 Mar 2006) - Sweden builds on biofuel lead
- Sweden has cemented its position as the European leader in the
transition to alternative fuels after oil company OK-Q8 said it planned
to open 10 new ethanol pumps in the country. The initiative will bring
to 145 the number of ethanol pumps operated by OK-Q8 and to 330 the
number of ethanol pumps in the country.
- Sweden
marks ethanol milestones - In October, the 1,000th E85 station
opened in Sweden, and by the end of November, the number of registered
ethanol cars was expected to surpass 80,000, according to Sweden-based
environmental vehicle organization Gröna Bilister, the Swedish
Association of Green Motorists.
- Sweden's
Saab leads drive to ethanol - The Boston Globe - TROLLHATTAN, Sweden
-- By 2020, the Swedish government wants every new car on the road to run
on fuels that can be replenished, and one of its car companies is
already speeding toward that ambitious goal.
- Ethanol as
Transport Fuel in Sweden - In 1996, there will be approx. 300 heavy
duty buses and trucks on the Swedish roads running on ethanol. Most of
them are inner city buses using neat ethanol with additive for improved
ignition. Some run on a diesel/ethanol mixture in fleet tests at five
locations. Total consumption of ethanol to the buses will be about 12
000 m3 95 % ethanol/year.
- Sweden fighting for
cheaper ethanol - Sweden has applied for EU approval to import
Brazilian ethanol at a lower tariff rate than the present tariff.
"The Swedish market for biofuel and environmentally friendly cars
is growing rapidly. But we know from experience that price is important.
The price of biofuel must be sufficiently attractive compared to that of
petrol," says Gunnar Wieslander, State Secretary for Trade.
- Swedish ethanol efforts in Africa - We are working to help Tanzania and Mozambique within 20 years become free of their dependence on oil, significantly increase their production of electric power and at the same time export several billion litres of ethanol from the factories we are planning

About Oilgae - Oilgae - Oil & Biodiesel from Algae
has a focus on biodiesel production from algae while also discussing
alternative energy in general. Algae present an exciting possibility as a
feedstock for biodiesel, and when you realise that oil was originally
formed from algae - among others - you think "Hey! Why not oil
again from algae!"
To facilitate exploration of oil production from algae as well as exploration
of other alternative energy avenues, Oilgae provides web links, directory,
and related resources for algae-based biofuels / biodiesel along with inputs
on new inventions, discoveries & breakthroughs in other alternative
energy domains such as solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, geothermal, hydrogen
& fuel cells, gravitational, geothemal, human-powered, ocean & wave /
tidal energy.
