Japan Sees Biodiesel Boost with New Fuel Standards – Planet Ark, Aug 2006
Closing the biofuel gap - Japan is lagging behind several other countries in developing liquid biofuels that serve as alternatives for fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas. An increase in demand for oil caused by expanding economic activities worldwide as well as tighter government control of nat ural resources, as in Russia, are likely to drive up oil prices. It is imperative that Japan develop alternative renewable energy sources to diversify energy sources and reduce reliance on oil. Read the full report from here (Jan 2007)

Japan Biodiesel Initiative @ Biodiesel Now
Japan Sees Biodiesel Boost With New Fuel Standards - Japan - August 18, 2006 - TOKYO - Japan, the world's third-largest oil consumer, will set out nationwide biodiesel standards this year in an effort to kick-start demand, but will not force refiners to sell it, government officials said on Thursday. Lagging international moves to use more biofuel to battle soaring crude oil prices and help ease global warming, Japan hopes the law -- allowing about 5 percent of fatty acid-derived fuel in diesel -- will spur more sales of green fuels made from renewable sources. Japan Biofuel Cars - In an attempt to lessen their need for foreign oil and to help cut down on green house emissions, Japan has set forth plans to convert the majority of its fuel resources to biofuels with 40% of its cars using biofuels in 5 years. They are currently concentrating on the use of ethanol. This is according to an article published in Forbes, June 2006 report
Biodiesel Fuel Standard in Japan:
Japan steps up its biofuel Drive: Fueled by concerns over surging oil prices and accelerating global warming, resource-poor Japan is revving up its drive to promote biofuels. Most publicly, tax changes aimed at encouraging motorists to use bio-gasoline are expected in a few months after the world’s second-largest economy and third-largest oil consumer started to sell bio-gasoline at a limited number of gas stations earlier this year on a trial basis.
Japan firm eyes ethanol, bio-diesel plant in Leyte: A Japanese company plans to build a $100-million bio-ethanol plant and a $50-million bio-diesel plant in Leyte if it could be assured of a steady supply of raw biofuel materials.
Japanese Company To Invest In Cambodia For Bio-Diesel: A Japanese company will invest 800 million U.S. dollars in Cambodia to plant castor bean and refine castor oil into bio-diesel, company source said here on Friday.

About Oilgae - Oilgae - Oil & Biodiesel from Algae
has a focus on biodiesel production from algae while also discussing
alternative energy in general. Algae present an exciting possibility as a
feedstock for biodiesel, and when you realise that oil was originally
formed from algae - among others - you think "Hey! Why not oil
again from algae!"
To facilitate exploration of oil production from algae as well as exploration
of other alternative energy avenues, Oilgae provides web links, directory,
and related resources for algae-based biofuels / biodiesel along with inputs
on new inventions, discoveries & breakthroughs in other alternative
energy domains such as solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, geothermal, hydrogen
& fuel cells, gravitational, geothemal, human-powered, ocean & wave /
tidal energy.
