us oil from algae; perhaps we should try Nature’s
way again

Not Exactly Break-through, But
Just Plain Interesting!
- Bicycle Chosen as Best Invention – BBC UK (May
2005) – The humble bicycle has won a UK national survey of
people's favourite inventions. Listeners to BBC Radio 4's You and Yours
programme were invited to vote in an online poll looking at the most
significant innovations since 1800. It was an easy victory for the
bicycle which won more than half of the vote.

- Five Breakthrough Energy Technologies - WIND ENERGY
CONTROLLER (A small turbine could still provide half your home's
electricity, thanks to a simple twist on a standard device),
NEXT-GENERATION HYBRID (With this vehicle, you can commute to work all
week without using a single drop of gas--and still drive hundreds of
miles for that well-earned vacation; the vehicle is based on the same
platform as a conventional car, but the powertrains are designed
differently); ZoomWAVE ENERGY BUOY (The ocean holds more than enough
power to light entire cities. Scientists just needed to figure out a way
to harness it); MICROBIAL FUEL CELL (Bacteria's hearty appetite for
waste creates more than just clean water. Other byproducts may power
treatment plants--and one day fuel your car); ORGANIC SOLAR CELLS
(Finally, a solar cell you can accessorize. Based on organic molecules,
these cells are so light and thin that you could power an iPod with the
sleeve of a windbreaker). From MSN

- Inventions
and Innovation Section @ EERE - For individuals or small businesses,
developing an energy-saving invention can be difficult. The U.S.
Department of Energy's (DOE's) Inventions and Innovation (I&I)
offers financial and technical support to inventors and businesses for
promising energy-saving concepts and technologies. I&I selects
technologies to receive grants through a competitive process. Inventors
can apply for a grant when I&I releases an announcement of funding
opportunity. Technologies that offer significant energy savings and
future commercial market potential are eligible for I&I support.

About Oilgae - Oilgae - Oil & Biodiesel from Algae
has a focus on biodiesel production from algae while also discussing
alternative energy in general. Algae present an exciting possibility as a
feedstock for biodiesel, and when you realise that oil was originally
formed from algae - among others - you think "Hey! Why not oil
again from algae!"
To facilitate exploration of oil production from algae as well as exploration
of other alternative energy avenues, Oilgae provides web links, directory,
and related resources for algae-based biofuels / biodiesel along with inputs
on new inventions, discoveries & breakthroughs in other alternative
energy domains such as solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, geothermal, hydrogen
& fuel cells, gravitational, geothemal, human-powered, ocean & wave /
tidal energy.
