One-pot Bioconversion of Algae Biomass into Terpenes for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts
Scientists from USA performed an experiment to effectively use all algal components for biofuel production. In their study, they demonstrated the concept of one-pot bioconversion of algal carbohydrate and protein into value-added terpene compounds. The process was carried out through the development of engineered microbial consortium
Results showed that the engineered consortium produced up to 40 times higher terpene yield than that extracted from plant tissue. The proposed one-pot bioconversion concept thus provides a promising alternative pathway for algal biofuel production.
