Microalgae Training Program from Algaetech
The following press release was given by Algaetech Sdn Bhd on 25th of March, 2011 on the completion of the Microalgae Training Program Session-2.
“Algaetech Sdn Bhd (www.algaetech.com.my) is proud to announce the successful completion of Session 2 Microalgae Training Program from March 21 to March 23 2011 (www.algaeasia.net). The program is organized in Algaetech research and Training Center, PT5517, Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil, KualaLumpur, Malaysia.
The three day microalgae training workshop aimed at establishing a knowledge sharing platform on algae. The program intends to divvy the knowledge on industrial algal cultivation to the upcoming scientists and researchers. The training provided a wide knowledge on the various methods of algal cultivation, maintenance and monitoring methods for algal growth, problem areas of algal cultivation, research requirements from industrial point of view and hands on training and demonstration on open ponds and photobioreactor operation.
Participants from the top rated institutes and universities like UTP (Universiti Teknologi Petronas), USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) & UMK (Universiti Malaysia Kelantan) attended this training program. The session was inaugurated by Mr. Nurul Azhar M. Harris, COO, Algaetech Sdn Bhd. During the inaugural lecture he stated that “Participants of microalgae training program can get continuous support from Algaetech for their research activities. Algaetech will be happy to assist all the participant and guide suitably to achieve the research targets”
Lecture on “Mass cultivation of algae” was lead by Ms. Sivasankari Ranganathan, Head Research Officer, AlgaeTech Sdn Bhd and the lectures on “Algae growth” and “Factors affecting algal growth” were lead by Ms. Parkavi Kumar, Research Officer, Algaetech Sdn Bhd. Demonstration and practical classes on laboratory techniques such as Isolation, Identification, Culturing techniques for unicellular and filamentous microalgae, Microalgal sub-culturing, Open pond cultivation and working of photobioreactor were handled by Algaetech researchers, Ms Aini, Ms. Tina and Ms. Shalini.
Following the successful completion of session 2, Algaetech is launching Microalgae Training Program Session 3 from April 4 to April 6 2011.
