Meet the startup creating edible straws to help save our oceans
Loliware is currently in process of developing biodegradable straws which can be eaten after use or composted.
They’re made out of seaweed-based materials and they have a shelf live of two years. If you leave them in liquid, however, they’ll dissolve in 24 hours.
Seaweed is a renewable resource that does not require land resources and actually absorbs CO2, which is why a seaweed-based product has an environmental advantage. Many bioplastics are made from GMO crops like corn.
