Kelp Farm gets $450k Federal Boost
A Los Angeles, California-area aquaculture farm – the first in the US permitted in federal waters — has begun work on its newest crop, giant sea kelp, with the help of a Department of Energy grant. The main goal of the project is to reduce cow flatulence.
Catalina Sea Ranch has received $450,000 to kickoff its new venture, as part of a $22 million nationwide research disbursement that also included $1.8m for macroalgae cultivation research at University of California, Irvine.
