DSM and Evonik Partner on Algae Additives

DSM and Evonik have announced a joint venture for algae based omega-3 fatty acids for animal nutrition.

Currently, the aquaculture industry uses 75% of annual production of fish oil. With this joint venture, Evonik and DSM will be able to offer a sustainable non-fish alternative, derived from marine algae. Initially, the product will target salmon aquaculture and pet food industry.algae animal feed

The joint venture follows the joint development agreement signed in 2015. Under this agreement, both the companies have jointly worked on the development of products, manufacturing process, exploring opportunities for commercialization.
