Japan’s Chitose Heading Abroad to Ramp up Spirulina Capacity
Japanese bioventure Chitose Laboratory has planned to quintuple blue green algae production capacity by expanding its business overseas and setting up production plants in Singapore and America.
The company’s business with Spirulina as a dietary supplement is currently a domestic concern, relatively small in scale compared with foreign plans. The company plans to invest 1 billion yen to build two factories which is expected to start functioning by 2017 and lift the total production capacity to 310 tons a year.
