Temperature Based Mass Flow Rate Sensor for Algae Photobioreactors
Researchers from Brazil performed an experiment to improve the use of photobioreactors, for continuous growth, by developing minimally invasive mass flow rate sensor that can be used as an alternative to ultrasonic sensors. A mathematical model was developed that allows for the determination of system temperature distribution.
The mathematical model was implemented in the Fortran and a microcontroller handled the data acquisition and information processing of the sensors. The results showed that this new sensor could allow continuous monitoring of photobioreactors and thereby control algae growth processes without affecting the algae.
