Algae Biomass for Diabetes- Patent in the US
US Patent #8,747,834 describes the use of algal biomass as a treatment for impaired glucose metabolism. Algal biomass reduces blood sugar levels and body fat, and also increases healthy bacteria in the gut.
Solazyme’s natural strain is referred to this patent, and is expected to be used for company’s brand ‘AlgaVia’, which markets whole algal flour and whole algal protein.
