Wanna Lose Weight? Algae can Help You!
An exciting research has been carried out by the University of Copenhagen. They have found that dietary fibers (alginates) from brown algae make people eat less as it creates the feeling of satiety, and ultimately they lose more weight.

They conducted the research with 96 over-weight people, of which 48 were made to consume a drink containing alginates, while the remaining 48 consumed drink without alginates. At the end of the study they discovered that persons who had an alginate-based diet lost an average weight of 1.7 kg which was significantly greater than the persons who took a diet without alginates.
According to the researchers, one possible reason for the weight loss is that the alginates form a gel in the stomach, which strengthens the gastro-intestinal satiety signals to the brain as the gel takes much space in the stomach. They hope that their findings may help in developing new options for weight loss treatments.
