US Navy to Buy 100,000 Gallons of Algae Oil from Solazyme

Algal Biomass Organisation (ABO), a non-profit organization which promotes the development of algae market, has recently released a statement stating that the US Navy has planned to purchase 450,000 gallons of drop-in biofuels, with 100,000 of those made from algal oils produced by ABO member Solazyme, Inc. Mary Rosenthal, executive director of the ABO strongly believes that this represents an important milestone in the algae fuel industry in creating domestically produced, drop-in renewable biofuels. ABO also said that they would look forward to working with the U.S. Navy and Department of Agriculture for the commercial development of algae biofuels.
