Linde Group and Sapphire Energy Unite for Algae Fuel Project
Germany-based Linde Group and US algae fuel company Sapphire Energy have jointly undertaken a project on the production of algae fuels. Sapphire Energy has signed a multi-year agreement with Linde Group for the development of a low-cost system for the supply of CO2 to the commercial-scale, open pond algae cultivation systems.
Linde has agreed to deliver CO2 to the commercial scale open ponds operated by Sapphire Energy near Columbus, New Mexico and to work with Sapphire to reduce the costs associated with CO2 supply to the algae cultivation ponds.
According to Sapphire’s president Cynthia Warner, they needed partners for the supply of huge quantities of CO2 in a cost-effective way for the commercial scale production of algae fuels to meet the growing demand.
