Capital costs for large scale gasification infrastructure

Postby cacofonix » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:00 pm

I feel that algae gasification to biofuels and polymers is possibly the most scalable method, which has the highest potential as it combines two scalable concepts - algae cultivation (these can even be macroalgae and there is no need to bother about specific strains, species etc) and gasification.

Watch out for companies that start working this combo.

One thing I am not entirely clear is the capital costs for gasification. For large-scale systems (10 MT per year of biomass processnig), I hear capex of 2.2$ per annual gallon to 8$ per annual gallon. Now, this is a very wide range...are there some reliable latest figures published on gasification capex?

Hi,
A book on Gasification By Chris Higman, Maarten van der Burgt shows the Capital Expenditure cost of GTL project as US$ 20,000 - 30,000 per barrels per day of Liquid product (2003)
