Algae fermentation without needing to harvest?

Postby cacofonix » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:03 pm

Sometime back, I read a news item from a company (forget the name) which claimed that the company was fermenting microalgae but without harvesting it. In fact, if I remember correct, the company claimed that because they did fermentation without harvesting the algae, their costs were cheaper...

Does anyone know more about this? Is fermenting without extraction possible, or had I not understood what I read?

Hi,
U are absolutely correct.. The company called Algenol is claiming so...They say " No ponds, no fresh water, no harvesting, no oils" .
I am also interested in knowing the exact process of Algenol's Technology...

In cnet news they have given,

Algenol's process is very different in that the algae are not cultivated. Instead, algae produce ethanol in gas form that is siphoned off from the bioreactor tubes and condensed to a liquid
