Algae Needs Pretreatrment like cellulosic Biomass?

Recent article in Science Daily about the discovery of lignin in red algae, will affect the idea of Ethanol from algae via fermentation process without pretreatment (which is a costly process in cellulosic ethanol feedstocks).

So researchers has to work either to device a pretreatment method for algae or to select an algae without Lignin ....this adds up one more bottleneck in this technology.......

Will all algae contain lignin.... you know the % of lignin found in the red algae?

I read about the idea of implementing pretreatment. I think it is definitely a good idea given the benefits of it. However, the only thing that worries me is the cost for it. The price tag is pretty much at the high end level and I do not know as to which all companies or even medical establishments would come and join in this because of the lack of insurance of this procedure going to be a success

I don't think so from the article itself. Seems that it's only in red algae.
