I worked on a strain which gave me 45% oil in lab but in open pond oil yield was much less to about 18%...Can anybody suggest me some strain with good oil yield in open pond cultivation? Anyone has any real life experience in open pond algal cultivation?

It sounds kind of like you are feeding your pond algae too well.

From what I have read, algae make lipids in stressful situations like a lack of nutrients. Perhaps you should try having two ponds, one to grow big health (but slender) algae, and a second, very pure water - no nutrients but lots of CO2 - to cause then little beasties to crank up the lipid production.

It may also be that a PBR (photo-bioreactor) could be used for that second step.

Wouldn't normal fertilizer that's applied for plants equally well for most strains of algae?
