As recently reported, Bard Holding Inc. and Algae Bioenergy Solutions (ABS) have announced a joint venture to develop an algae production facility in Augusta, Georgia. Meetings held last week for their new venture, called BARD-ABS (JV) Inc., launched the project with phase-one funding and its initial management team.

Richard Wilson, CEO and Founder of The Wilson Group and a long time CNN journalist (from 1986 to 2005) and science and technology reporter, was appointed Chief Executive Officer for the joint venture. Dr. Surajit Khanna, Chairman and CEO of BARD, speaking from the European Algae Biomass conference in London, England on the commercialization and speed to market of algae production said, “Mr. Wilson’s extensive experience in science and technology, combined with his involvement in green projects for over a decade and passion for making the U.S. oil independent, will lead the company in the right direction.” Ravi Sahani was appointed CPA of the new JV, Benny Tillman was appointed as the General Manager and Pratap Singh was admitted as an advisor to the BARD-ABS (JV) board.

Ground breaking for the new algae production plant is set for May 9, 2011 at a 200,000 square foot facility on Dixon Airline Road in Augusta, Georgia. BARD will develop the site to accommodate a 10-million gallon—expandable to 100 million gallons per year capacity of algae oil production. Plans are to begin implementing the first module of BARD’s proprietary algae production system on June 14, 2011.
