Photon8 Aims @ $1.25 /Gallon Algae Fuels Using Photobioreactors - Photon8 Aims @ $1.25 /Gallon Algae Fuels Using Photobioreactors - Photon8, a Texas based algae fuel company claims that they have devised a business model which would be produce biodiesel at $1.25 per US gallon.

Photon8 grow their algae in closed systems – photobioreactor with a production rate equal to 1.5 gal/square meter/year. They expect to produce 22,000 gal per 2.5 acre/yr then to best economic units of 5 acres.

A New Algae Fuel Venture in Australia - A new algae fuel company by name – Muradel Pty has joined the algae fuel race. This company is a joint venture between Murdoch University, Adelaide Research and SQC Pty.

This company has been started to make algae fuels a reality in Australia taking into the advantage the climatic conditions of Australia. The company plans to produce algae for renewable fuel and co-products from biomass.

Origin Oil Enters into a OEM Partnership with Desmet Ballestra - Origin Oil will work with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to integrate its extraction technology into their branded systems.

The OEM category includes manufacturers, distributors, engineering service firms, system integrators and also specialty operators in high-value market such as nutritionals and beauty products. For this venture, the company will be backed by its few strategic partners to help prove and scale the company’s extraction technology. Ricks Eckeleberry says that they now plan to embed their technology into the industrial algae systems that others build.

New Algae Harvesting Technique from Innova Tech - Algae fuels commercialization faces challenges in every part of the value chain. Starting from strain selection to product extraction there are biological and engineering breakthroughs which are required to make algae fuels a reality. With respect to harvesting, the main issue is the energy required to remove the algae cells from the liquid media. An Australian company with plans to make the nation the "Saudi of the biofuel industry" is taking part in Austrade's G'Day USA to further its goal. Muradel, a joint venture between Murdoch University, the University of Adelaide and SQC, had representatives in San Diego yesterday. San Diego is a global hotspot for algae biofuels.

Aggies converting algae to fuel - Pecos Algae facility of Pecos Research Center converts algae to biofuel in their algae pond at Texas A&M University. Louis Brown, the project manager, estimates, within the next five years, producers will be able to get between 1,800 and 2,500 gallons of oil per acre of algae per year.

Qantas to sign LOI for algae-based aviation biofuel - Qantas confirmed that it is in advanced talks with an unnamed algal biofuels producer (“with strong ties to Australia”) that are expected to result in a letter of intent for an offtake agreement for algal jet fuel, with the potential that Qantas may take a financial stake in the venture.
