Oilgae Guide to Wastewater Treatment Using Algae

There have been significant developments worldwide in the past few years in using algae as a bioremediation agent to treat sewage and industrial waste water. This process has been found to be environmentally positive and less costly than using chemical and alternative methods. If you wish to know in detail about the potential, processes and technologies for algae-based waste water treatment, you should read the Oilgae Guide to Algae-based Wastewater Treatment . Has DARPA Created Magic, This Time with Algae?

Many decades back, when millions of people worldwide relied on the postman to send and receive communications, a small group of researchers exchanged their communications electronically. This electronic mail, or email, expanded in scope to include all sorts of information being available via digital media, and with the birth of the browser, blossomed into the Internet. The brain behind the original communications network that became the Internet was DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), part of the United States Department of Defense.

Even today, when you think about it, you might be amazed at the way the Internet has changed our lives. Sometimes, it almost seems almost as if DARPA had pulled off a miracle.

Well, folks, if the news items I read last week are anything to go by, DARPA appears to be on the way to pulling off a miracle yet again. A DARPA executive claimed that the agency was on the way to produce oil from algae at $2 per gallon, and within months, not years.

Hmmm...It is not a good idea to dismiss DARPA as charlatans - there is no question that they have the brains. But algae oil at $2 in a few months? To ordinary people like me, it sounds unbelievable.

I tried to access as much information on this as possible, but unfortunately, all I have are sketchy details. All news items on this topic were short on details.

While it's any body's guess how much exactly algae to fuels cost today, the lowest estimate we at Oilgae obtained was about $6 per gallon.

How has DARPA managed to get there - that is, if they have?

It'll be great if any of you have a scoop on this. How indeed have they been able to manage the cultivation and harvesting costs? What process are they following? What strains are they using?

Questions, questions!

I'm keenly awaiting the answers
