Salinity of the water

Postby Koen Driesen » Fri Apr 15, 2011 8:28 pm

Hello, I'm a student at the university in Belgium and my thesis is about the CO2 mitigation by microalgae in photobioreactors. I have some questions about this:

For the culture of microalgae in photobioreactors, you have to take in account some parameters, like temperature, pH, etc. I wonder what the values of the salinity must be in the photobioreactor. And do freshwater microalgae need also some salinity or isn't it allowed for them to have some salts in the water?
And one more question: how to increase/decrease the salinity? Just use some seawater for the increase and freshwater for the decrease?

Thanks in advance!

Best wishes,
Koen
