New US patent 7772002 for the production of oil from jatropha cells 1
The USPTO (US Patent Office) issued today Patent No. 7772002 of August 2010 for a method of production of jatropha oil from multiplying cells derived from seeds, wherein there is not need to grow plants on fields since the complete method is in the lab. The substrate for the cells is sugar, and the resulting oil gives a better energy yield than ethanol at a lower cost. The method is very promising since Jatropha oil is good to make fuel for airplanes. The patent covers also all kind of cells derived from oily seeds including those seed that are good as food for human consumption. The green energy world should know about this new development since it can revolutionize energy production that can truly substitute fossil fuels. The method was developed by a Colombian University in Medellin
