The answer is simple. Algae ! isnt it.

So far technology points to Algae as the best possible choice for biodiesel fuel production and yield.

Algae fuel is classified as a third generation biofuel. Algae biofuel is considered a high density yield and one acre of land is able to produce 100-420 Mb of biodiesel. Big name companies are joining together and pooling their resources in order to bring algae biodiesel into the forefront of fuel production.

Biodiesel made from algae oil is a highly carbon negative process. That is to say, more carbon is absorbed than it is emitted in producing and burning the biofuel. Because it can be grown vertically, large amounts of algae biofuel can be produced on small amounts of land due to the unique nature of algae. Also because of the vertical growing process, algae has a huge potential for massive amounts of oil production levels. Algae requires very little fertilizer and pesticide. It also uses less water than most other biofuels. When compared to other biofuels, Algae only needs one to two percent of our existing farm land to handle half of the fuel demand of the United States. This means that doubling or even tripling this allotment of land would not be as much of an issue if the United States wanted to switch completely over to algae biodiesel fuel permanently.

An unfortunate downfall to algae biodiesel fuel is that the technology simply is not ready for production on a massive scale. Additionally the production of the algae into biodiesel fuel requires a lot of energy to be put into effect, however, if we are making energy with the biodiesel fuel, this should not be much of an issue once the technology is perfected.

Companies that are leading the way in the research for algae biodiesel are using the algae we already have collecting in our waste systems for their experimentations.

This is a double edged sword allowing for a cleaner environment as well as a new energy source to keep our world turning. Some companies encourage wild algae growth and foster it to get pure sources of the algae. Since there is so much of the algae around, this should leave us plenty of algae to still breathe.
