Bio-reactor building materials that may show some toxic properties.... 3
Dear FOA....Friends Of AlgaeHas any research been done on the possible toxic properties of building materials that might be used in building a closed bioreactor? I have heard that PVC
plastic pipe can out-gas clorine and algae don't like that. Do you have any ideas?
How about a list of toxic materials and chemicals?
Give each substance a rating on a scale of 1 to 5.
One being mildly disagreable and five = very sick algae!
Thank you, SAM

Hi,
Here's a useful white paper that dwells on the various materials used for PBR construction - primarily mentioned are glass, acrylic and LDPE. - http://stwp.cecs.anu.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/WHEC-Burgess-biohydrogen.pdf
Acrylic is the way to go
A group of researchers working with a company called Solix biofuels are investigating HDPE to make reactors - http://www.docstoc.com/docs/23102261/Algae-to-Biodiesel
