MIT Prof Stephanopoulos gets a grant for heterotrophic microbe research 32
According to Prof Stephanopoulos, the technology makes use of an engineered microbe. The technnology is an attempt to convert carbohydrate feedstocks into lipids.Once the carbohydrates are converted into lipids, the methodology to get biodiesel is kind of straightforward.Standard transesterification would do.
The method is expensive as it doesnt make use of free CO2.
This news gives us an idea as to where the research funding is going.

carbohydrates as feedstock? Sigh... And with an engeneerd bug? Double Sigh... Some people will never learn.
