City - Birmingham Country - United Kingdom Role - Student About - I'm a final year student at Aston University studying Industrial Product Design. I'm designing a photobioreactor and the way it can be introduced into the working world. My proposal is to introduce Algae photobioreactors to industrial estates. The idea is to power the corporate buildings/plants and/or the local community. My original proposal was to incorporate algae harvesting into city center buildings. Making use of the vertical space on the sides of concrete buildings to grow algae and harvest it. The algae would be transferred to the basement, converted into oil then used in boilers to heat the building. However I have several concerns about this idea; Space, insurance, cost and practicality. I'm seeking help and advice about; productivity photobioreactors and current systems.My long term aim is to get government funding/grants to prototype and test in local communities. |
