City - Newcastle upon Tyne Country - United Kingdom Role - Research & Academia About - ALGAL BIOFUELS - THE 'MARINE BIOENERGY INITIATIVE' I have a keen and active interest in the continued development of algae (both micro- and macroalgae) as potential sources of marine biofuels. I lead an active and growing research group addressing a diverse range of marine bioenergy topics. I currently have programmes funded by research councils, industry and local and national government. In addition, we have recently completed a new large scale culture facility within the Ridley Building to further our research in this promising and challenging area. I have active programmes in seaweed anaerobic digestion; microalgae culture management for biodiesel production; microalgae bioflocculation and harvesting; and energy production from marine biomass wastes. |

- The first step would be to isolate a good strain or engineering one. Then optimize conditions for enhanced algae production and take it from there.Production of algaefuel is sure a technology for the future.
