  • Algae Oil Extraction

There are a variety of methods that can be used to extract oil from harvested algal biomass. Is hexane solvent extraction among the best of the available methods? Or are expellers a better choice?

I'm interested in learning more about the use of hydrothermal liquefaction. Especially in regard to EPA/DHA and other non-biofuel compounds extractable from algae.

yes i work on hydrothermal liquefaction which seems very promising as you dont have to dry biomass. further you con produce oil from the carbohydrates and proteins reducing waste. you can also recycle the water for algae growth. overall it seems very promising!

To break down Algae oil or non edible oil to smaller number carbon chain there is validate technology available with (Honey well) (UOP).It is like crude oil hydro cracking at refinery.

Hexane and expellar technology works. What about liquidfaction, gasification and cavitation?? Do we have any FOA in the club that has doe any work with these interesting technoligies?
