Clearas Water Recovery, a US based company\u00a0has developed a process to use algae to remove nitrogen and phosphorous from public wastewater treatment plants, keeping waterways from being inundated with the compounds that starve fish and plant life of oxygen. In turn, the algae can be sold to other companies for fertilizer, biofuels and other uses.\"\"<\/p>\n

The company announced its first large scale advanced biological nutrient recovery system last month. The facility is set to be attached to a wastewater plant for South Davis Sewer District in Utah. The plant would start production in a year and is expected to generate around 8000 lbs of dry weight algae biomass per day.<\/p>\n
