In a project investigated at Rutger&#8217;s University, selected species of microalgae, cultured primarily for their use in aquaculture as feedstock for macroorganisms , are examined to determine if they produce medicinal and nutritional natural products. One of the goals of this project is to develop methods and protocols to survey these species for chemical components of medicinal or nutritional interest. Using chromatographic techniques, the algal extracts are fractionated in order to reduce complexity of chemical analysis by HPLC-UV-MS.
