The event witnessed a large number of university and college researchers working on biofuels and algae. Most of the researchers who competed for the\u00a0for Phase II funding under the EPA\u2019s People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) student-design competition had their projects\u00a0\u00a0focused on biofuel and algae production.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the interesting projects included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cFrom Manure to Diesel in 2 Weeks\u201d\u2014Students from Arizona State University are investigating how nutrient waste from wastewater treatment plants can be used in algae culture media for biofuel production.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBurning Algae under the Sun\u201d\u2014Students at New Mexico State University are developing a solar reactor that can convert solid wastes from algae biofuel into liquid and gas fuels that can be used to increase fuel production.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSmells like Sustain-algae-lity\u201d\u2014Students at Drexel University in Pennsylvania are designing a pilot-scale reactor for a local landfill that uses algae to produce biofuels from leachate and landfill gas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Algae &#8211; gonna rock!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biodieselmagazine.com\/articles\/8445\/epa-p3-competition-held-over-earth-day-weekend-in-washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research interest of college and university students is leaning towards algae fuels!\u00a0The U.S. EPA co-sponsored the 8th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo, which took place in Washington on April 21-23, over the Earth Day Weekend.
