The first US commercial flight by biofuels derived from algae \u00a0(Solajet) \u00a0has flown from Houston\u2019s IAH airport to Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare airport. Solajet,( 40% algae-derived jet fuel) manufactured by Solazyme,complies with the ASTM D7566 specification for \u2018synthetic paraffinic kerosene from hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids. (approved in July 2011)<\/p>\n

Solazyme claims that that they produce\u00a0\u00a0500,000 tonnes of renewable fuel by 2015, and to supply up to 20 million gallons a year of the renewable jet fuel by 2014.<\/p>\n

Solazyme has so far delivered more than 20,000 gallons of algae oil to the US military by employing their\u00a0proprietary fermentation technology.<\/p>\n
