Norwegian Salmon to be raised on Feed Made with Algae
Leroy Seafood Group has planned to raise salmon fed with algae based aquatic feed from this month. The firm will start using the new aquatic feed after entering into an agreement with Danish aquatic feed manufacturer BioMar Group.
Salmon typically get their omega- 3 fatty acids from fishmeal and fish oil. The new feed called AlgaPrime DHA will comprise omega-3 derived partly from microalgae which yields the crucial Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
It is to be noted that the new omega-3 rich whole algae ingredient was developed by TerraVia in partnership with Bunge. Later BioMar developed a range of feed solutions for Leroy, where a part of omega-3 is obtained from microalgae.
